Weekend Getaway / Scout Sixteen

Last month, I went to Miami and got the beach bug. You know that unexplainable feeling that makes being inside unbearable … apparently, the only medicine for that is cloudless sunny weather and sand between your toes. That said, I’m making plans to take frequent day trips or weekend jaunts to some of the amazing spots in and around New York City.

I’ve made it a habit to keep a bag packed and ready when the travel bug starts to itch. Here’s what is inside my ‘Getaway Bag’:

1. Onia Stripe Towels  - These towels are stylish without being over-the-top.

2. Onia Shorts in OrangeThis swimsuit plays double-duty as a street short and swim trunk.

3. Onia Shorts in FloralI think we all know I can’t travel without a little floral in tow.

4. Sebago Boat Shoe - Seriously one of the most comfortable, breathable shoes I own.

5. Coach Canvas Tote – This weekend bag makes getting out the door easy and organized.

6. Frends Headphones – On the train, by the pool, or in the sand, these headphones steal the show.

7. Tom Ford SunglassesSince it’s likely the only Tom Ford item I’ll ever get to own, I make these not-so-pricey sunnies a must.

8. Goorin Brothers Straw FedoraWhen it’s hot outside, this bad boy keeps me cool. And look good on anyone, too.

8. iPad Mini – This miniature gadget keeps my life organized and stores all my favorite magazines for easy reading.

Win a Pair of Johnston & Murphy Shoes

Spring is the season I most look forward to each year: date-night weather, weekend road trips, and Sunday brunches in sidewalk cafés. There is something uniquely cool about spring style. Maybe it’s the ‘devil-may-care’ look of a rolled-up jean or the effortless effect tailored shorts give to any leg, I’m just in love with spring fashion.

This season, I’ve partnered with perennial favorite shoe brand Johnston & Murphy to upgrade one lucky reader’s spring style with the #PerfectPair of J&M shoes! As an avid explorer of the City, I’m always looking for shoes that not only parallel my style but also provide comfort and durability. Johnston & Murphy’s shoes have amazing traction that make even the dressiest options perfect for any terrain.

Pardon the delay in posting sooner, this week has gotten the best of me and I’ve just had time to sit down and draft up something up. I shot this look with Christina a few weeks back using my favorite sweatpants from Isaora. You may have noticed that fitness gear has slowly made its way into casual fashion. From Nike trainers to nylon running shirts, pieces typically better suited for the gym are becoming a main staple for many guys (and gals) worldwide.

Have you tested this trend in your own wardrobe yet?

Warby Parker Glasses

If you’re like me, you have a hard time finding the perfect pair of glasses. Either they’re far too chunky for your face or just small enough to look ridiculous. After trying so many different styles over the years, I finally gave up thinking I’d never look right in a pair… how will my dreams of being a hipster come true?!… Cue the ‘Face Shape Guide‘. Since identifying my facial structure, I’ve been able to select silhouettes of glasses that match my features. I have a heart-shaped face, which sounds rather girly but I’ll take it! I’ve been fitted and framed with some amazing styles (like the above from Warby Parker) that beckon compliment after compliment from friends (and sometimes, total strangers).

Since making this discovery, my whole world has changed! I’m kidding… not a whole lot has changed, but I do look better with glasses on and that counts for something, right? I know how hard it can be to find your perfect pair, so I hoped to take some of the guess work out for you.

The Best Glasses for Your Face / Face Shape Guide

Square

Angular face with a defined jaw line, wide forehead and strong chin.

Break up your right angles with round or oval frames, which will help soften the lines. Glasses with defined temples will also work well for your face’s shape.

Round

Full cheeks, rounded chin with few angles. Width and length are proportional.

With a round face, try more angular glasses that will add dimension to your face. Rectangular and oblong pairs will make your face look thinner and longer.

Triangle

Narrow forehead and eye line. Face widens at the cheeks and the chin.

Try semi-rimless frames that accentuate your upper face or top-heavy styles that will balance out your stronger jawline.

Oblong

Face is longer than it is wide with a longer nose, high cheekbones, and tall forehead.

Decorative temples will add width to your face, while a taller frame/rim will make your face look shorter.

Oval

Fairly balanced proportions. Chin is narrower than forehead while cheekbones are high.

Most frames will work for your face, while rectangular or abstract pairs will add angles to the soft curves in your face.

Diamond

Small forehead and chin with narrowed jaw and eye lines. Angular features with defined cheekbones.

Your cheekbones are the star of the show, define them with top-heavy styles that feature decorative temples. Rimless styles will also work well for your frame.

Heart

Broad forehead and wide cheek bones that narrow into a smaller chin.

Bottom-heavy frames will add width to the lower face, while narrow, round frames will soften a wide forehead.
