Monk Around

Scout Sixteen - Johnston & Murphy

Let’s discuss shoes for a minute. One of my all-time favorite styles is the monk strap. Here’s a little history lesson… Easy to take on and off, monk strap shoes were originally popular with European monks because it functioned better than the traditional sandal while still maintaining integrity as a “work shoe”.

Personally, it’s less of a functionality issue and more of an aesthetic reason behind my love for monk straps. Last month, I wore this pair of Johnston & Murphy monk straps while running around the City. Aside from being extremely comfortable, they’re an incredibly stylish pair of shoes. The textured leather helps to balance between dressy and casual, which is important in a daily wardrobe where a few outfit changes may be necessary.

What shoes are you most-excited to wear this season? Tell me in the comments!

  1. love them! i love a strappy shoe with buckle details for FW. I’m most excited to wear the creepers i just ordered. they are an ankle boot style with straps that I have never seen before, so they are little more stylish for city wear!

  2. I just bought a pair of the Wolverine 1000 Mile workboots in tan. They are amazingly comfortable, look great with different color denim and chinos, and are made in the USA. The are very well made and will be a part of my wardrobe for years to come. Well worth the price.
