Men's Skincare Routine 2019

My Skincare Cabinet

Skincare has always been incredibly important for me. Over the years, I’ve suffered from all the skincare woes – rosacea, acne, eczema… you name it, I had it. It wasn’t until five or six years ago that I finally woke up to the power of a good skincare routine. While I still battle those same issues, I’ve found products that have transformed my skin into something I’m incredibly proud to show off – and I wanted to quickly share a few tips and tricks that have helped me over the years along with a bevy of products that I’ve tested, loved, and kept in stock in my medicine cabinet.

Men's Skincare Routine 2019

// EXFOLIATE //
I know I’m beating a dead horse but this is, by far, my most important skincare tip. Clearing away the upper layer of dead skin cells will allow your skincare serums/products to reach down deep and work their magic. Physical exfoliates, like scrubs or even a washcloth, are perfect for this.

// WET YOUR FACE //
It sounds ridiculously simple, but wet skin absorbs whatever you put on it much more effectively than dry skin. Duh, right? But it’s just science… water loosens the bonds between skin cells, so ingredients— like moisturizers or serums — can travel deeper within skin. If your skin is more sensitive and prone to irritation, then apply products to dry skin and you should experience less of a reaction.

// LAYER YOUR PRODUCTS //
Different formulas work differently on skin. It’s all about finding the balance that works for you. It may sound intense but I typically layer on at least 4 products both morning and night. I’ll start with a lactic acid treatment (like Sunday Riley’s Good Genes) and follow that with a good serum. A few minutes later, I’ll apply an eye treatment before moisturizing with hefty helping of face cream.

// NO SALT //
No salt — stay away from it because you’re going to end up super puffy. Stay away from refined sugars, because you can get what we called ‘the sugar face,’ which is basically that sugar can create break outs. Try and have a daily supplement such as zinc, magnesium and coenzymes. And of course, lots and lots of water.

// HONEY FOR GLOWING SKIN //
I absolutely love a DIY moment – and this super easy mask I stumbled onto online is one I’ve been swearing by lately. Mix one part honey and two parts pure aloe Vera gel. Apply this on your face before you go to bed and you’ll wake with glowing skin.

// GLYCOLIC ACID //
Whether you’re dealing with dryness, sun damage, blemishes, or dullness or you just want that beautiful skin to continue to be beautiful as you age, AHA’s and BHA’s are a brilliant way to improve your skin both the short and long term, without potentially toxic ingredients.

And here are some of my absolute favorite skincare products right now. I’ve tested all of these and have loved them and they’ve all held their place in my skincare journey – feel free to shop below!
