I’ve always wanted to be on name-basis with a coffee shop. It’s like the young New Yorker’s version of ‘Cheers’… where everybody knows your name. Starbucks doesn’t count because they have to write your name on a cup and there’s always that one barista who spells my name Y-A-S-T-E-N (that is not a lie). I’m more than obsessed with THE BEAN’s rich, dark roast and when I walk in, I’m greeted with an “It’s Justin!”. I can’t help but smile every time…
On a related note, I’ve been exploring the East Village quite a lot since moving into the area. From tiny tucked-away vintage stores to grocery stores that feel more ‘marvel of industry’ than ‘modern food store’, the East Village has a little something to offer everyone. Sadly, I think I’ve visited more bars that boutiques in my area; I blame it on cold weather and my need for a warming whiskey.
