A few years back I made a pact to myself that I would rediscover my love for live music. As a teenager, I clamored to see my favorites perform at local venues. Once I moved to New York, I jumped on the opportunity to see those same artists at some of the city’s most coveted arenas. Work eventually took over my life and my spark for live music unfortunately fizzled as a result.

I was so excited when NYLON Guys and Original Penguin invited me to see Tanlines perform at Rough Trade as part of their tour across the U.S. I remember dancing around my bedroom lip-singing their hit, “All Of Me.” I was joined by my blogger pal Isaac (of Isaac Likes) for the festivities and outfitted for the evening by my friends over at Original Penguin, who are celebrating their 60th Anniversary! OPG has always been a go-to of mine for their concert/festival vibes… I mean, they have had some major fans in the music industry (going back to Rat Pack greats like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby).

Needless to say, it was a night to remember. Good music, great friends, and a few whiskey sours… New York nights are my favorite!

* If you get the chance, be sure to download Tanlines’ newest album, Highlights.

  1. I think our generation growing up definitely loved live music more than most, or maybe the acts that were out during our teen years just put on damn good live shows. Either way, I’m the same way. I’d definitely enjoy getting back into live music now that I can legally enjoy a beer at a music venue.

  2. Very nice outfit! I love live music, and it’s one of the things that has made me love Seattle so much. The variety of live music here is amazing, and there’s a lot of young talent out there in the dive-ey bars. I love Tanlines btw! They are REALLY good live, they put on a great show all the time.
