It was a Sunday afternoon. My neighbor had just gotten his first motorcycle and was showing it off by giving rides to the neighborhood kids. I was third in line to hop on the back of his bike and couldn’t have been more nervous. My mom hadn’t been keen on the idea of a middle schooler on a motorcycle but this wasn’t just any bike, this was a Harley-Davidson: sleek, stylish, and eternally badass.
From my first ride forward, I became a motorcycle junkie and Harley-Davidson Motor Company took the honors of becoming my go-to metric for “everything cool”. (If you can believe it, I had a black leather moto jacket when I was 10 or 11 years old emblazoned with an enormous Harley-Davidson logo. I wore it almost every day!) While I haven’t taken the plunge and purchased myself a motorcycle, I do stay fairly up-to-date on news coming from the industry. When Harley-Davidson asked if I wanted to be part of the team revealing their newest initiative fusing technology and art, I jumped at the opportunity.
Harley-Davidson is releasing their first electric motorcycle – aptly named Project LiveWire – which reflects the tradition of the brand’s consistency to lead innovation in its 111-year history. The bike offers a visceral riding experience by giving riders an unmistakable new sound and tire-shredding acceleration. Personally, I think this motorcycle is incredibly handsome with its sleek body and fashion-forward features… You’d certainly be the most stylish in a motorcycle gang!
Harley-Davidson will kick off a 2014 U.S. tour with a journey down Route 66 and will visit more than 30 Harley-Davidson dealerships now through the end of the year.
