As I sat watching attendees flood into Skylight Moynihan Station for The Art Institutes’ runway show during New York Fashion Week, I knew I was in for a treat. If you’re unfamiliar, The Art Institutes is one of the country’s leading education systems (with 50 schools nationwide) for students pursuing creative careers. Thirteen designers – a mix of both current students and recent graduates – had the opportunity to showcase all of the hard work and grit they’ve put into their Fall 2016 collections.
From strong lines and bold fabrics to soft silhouettes and rugged masculinity, the collections impressed upon the full style spectrum. Seeing each beautiful collection bloom proved that these designers understand fashion is more than just about a garment or construction – these were inspired ideas meant to push their personal and creative boundaries… and leave the audience wowed. In my opinion, I’d say they were more than successful.
