Summer Cool

Scout Sixteen - Nespresso Scout Sixteen - Nespresso

It’s no surprise I love coffee. Like any working professional, I nearly depend on my morning cup of joe to jumpstart my energy and productivity for the day. Most days, I’ll have a cup in the morning and a cup in the afternoon… but, if we’re being honest, Mondays often require a second morning cup.

Usually, I opt for my favorite light roast – but with summer in full swing, I was really craving a perfect homemade iced coffee recipe. My friends had varying tips and tricks that they’d learned from a coffee-loving relative or while on the road in some exotic locale. They were fine recipes but they weren’t what I was looking for. I wanted something deliciously simple, flavorful, and – most of all – incredibly easy to make.

Guess where I found it? In my own apartment!

My kitchen is full of gadgets and recently I’d added the Nespresso Inissia machine to the family. I test-drove the machine at a friend’s place and instantly became obsessed. Had to have my own (because I obviously have zero chill). While hunting for my “perfect” iced coffee, I tried out two Nespresso on Ice recipes I found on the brand’s website and – VOILA! – my search was over.

Recipe #1
  1. Place 3 oz. of ice cubes in a tall glass (the Nespresso PURE Recipe glasses work amazingly).
  2. Insert capsule into Nespresso machine
  3. Brew one Ristretto Grand Cru into glass.
  4. Add 3 oz. of water.
  5. Shave ginger root over the top, to taste.
  6. Enjoy!
Recipe #2
  1. Place 3 oz. of ice cubes in a tall glass (the Nespresso PURE Recipe glasses work amazingly).
  2. Insert capsule into Nespresso machine
  3. Brew one Vanilio GrandCruinto glass.
  4. Froth 3 oz. of milk (preferably using the Nespresso Aeroccino 4 Milk Frother) and pour into glass.
  5. Drizzle maple syrup over top, to taste.
  6. Enjoy!

I mean, c’mon, how delicious do these sound? Admittedly, since discovering these recipes, I’ve had at least two of them per day – but I can’t help myself, I feel like a skilled barista in my own home (and the best part is that I don’t even have to change out of my PJ’s)!

My mom has a kitchen philosophy that goes, “everything nice deserves a little spice.” She often adds a dash of an unexpected flavor (like Thai Chilies, cinnamon, etc.) to her favorite recipes. It’s a trick I’ve always kept with me – which is probably why I love these two recipes so much. The surprising flavor profiles of the shaved ginger root and maple syrup were like fireworks to my taste buds!

If you haven’t jump started your summer with an excellent Nespresso on Ice drink, it’s about time you did. You can hop on over to their Iced Coffee site to get even more ideas for tantalizing flavor combinations and find more information about the Nespresso Inissia machine.

It’s like they always say, good things CAN happen in summer. You just have to know where to look!

xo,

Justin
