Scout Sixteen - Topman LookScout Sixteen - Topman LookScout Sixteen - Topman Look

One week from today, I leave for Copenhagen, Denmark. I’ll be gone for 7 days – traveling with my best friend (and roommate) Christina thanks to H&M. I’ll be sure to give you the play-by-play on what I eat because – let’s be honest – we all know that’s going to be my main point of interest. No matter how many times I travel, I still get the same frantic feeling that I’m going to forget an essential item or lose my passport and be stuck in travel limbo. As a member of the extreme OCD club, I am a very skilled (and efficient) packer. Everything has its place and there is never over-packing. I’ll be doing a “What I Travel With” piece this weekend so stay tuned. How do you pack when you travel? Any tips?

In other news, Topman (the men’s division of Topshop) asked me to interpret my everyday style in a head-to-toe Topman look. Most of you know I’m not high-fashion (and likely never will be). I call my style “classic with a twist” and on this day, I was feeling a bit edgier. I paired an otherwise classic grey look with a fluorescent orange beanie and vintage bandana. The black boots are actually one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe now – sturdy, stylish, and classic.

Orange isn’t a color I wear too often. Don’t get me wrong – I love it – but it’s quite difficult to find a shade of orange that doesn’t leave you feeling like a clown or a die-hard Tennessee Vols fan. I came across this pair of destroyed denim from Denim & Supply (the fairly-new off-shoot from Ralph Lauren) and had to have them. The denim has stretch and adds a dose of color to my summer palette. Do you wear orange?

I had the pleasure of attending (for the second time) the Coach Carnival event on the High Line. It’s always one of my favorite evenings of the summer – filled with carnival games, street food, and a bevy of specialty cocktails. The best part is spending the evening on New York’s impressive High Line and conversing with friends (like Christine, Eliot, and Keiko shown above) until long after the sun has set. Coach is a company that has always been so good to me – I’ve really come to love the team there and consider them good friends. I can’t thank them enough for starting my summer off just right.

I wanted to share these two snaps with you guys that I took in Times Square this past week. As a New Yorker, it’s on very rare occasion that I (willingly) find myself in Times Square. Between the almost half a million daily visitors and uncomparable sensory overlaod, this specific New York landmark can be a bit arresting. Yet the magic of Times Square can’t properly be described, it must be experienced. Have you ever been?

When I need to escape from reality for a bit, I find myself craving a corner seat at a locally-owned coffee shop. Nothing calms my “life-anxiety” quite like an iced coffee. I hop on the free wi-fi and surf the web or finish up the latest must-read book I downloaded on my iPad. On this particular afternoon, I had the pleasure of spending it with a talented photographer and friend Emma Kepley. She has such a keen eye for weathered yet crisp photographs and if you haven’t checked out her site – it’s about time you did!

We met up at Gasoline Alley Coffee on Lafayette, near Houston. I grabbed an iced espresso and a bold and bright hibiscus donut – obviously a choice only made because it was National Donut Day. (I admit, I didn’t find this fact out until days later. I just love donuts, generally speaking.)

For those who are curious: Emma shoots with a Canon 5D Mark ii + 50mm f/1.4 lens or 85mm f/1.4 lens. My camera is a Nikon D600 + 50mm f/1.4 lens.

It’s been over a week since I’ve updated… that feels strange. This site has become such an extension of myself that it gets staid when I don’t post a couple of times a week. I’ve been in major focus mode working with my designer on Scout’s redesign (which I can’t wait to reveal to you all very soon!) and had a bit of a battle with the summer flu. These photos were from last weekend, spent with old friends and newly-established acquaintances in the Lower East Side. Scout honor, I’ll be posting much more frequently … although I appreciate all the emails asking if I had died after a week of no posts. Even though I didn’t respond to all the emails, I attest that I am very much alive (and now stuffed off of rice krispie treats as I type this).

Unless you live in a major metro area, it’s hard to understand the love-hate relationship a straphanger has with the underground rail systems. Most mornings, I board the NRQ trains headed in either direction depending on my schedule. And every morning, there is some odd occurrence that has me wishing I’d never boarded: a homeless man with odorous feet only inches from my seat, the little girl who’s nursing what appears to be the bubonic plague, and - most dreaded of all - the frequent and far-too-loud mariachi bands that seem to appear from thin air.

I roll my eyes and make an audible scoff but when I’ve arrived at my stop and climb my way back to reality, I sort of miss the amusement of being a part of an underground moving circus. Like an endless cycle, I’m at it again.

I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve partnered with Trendseeder and created a bag with award-winning designer Ernest Alexander. We sat down a few months ago to brainstorm what my “signature weekender” would look like and … voila! … here it is!

I wanted something that could withstand my on-the-go lifestyle, whether for an overnight shoot or a weekend upstate with friends. This Bedford Canvas Overnight Bag stages the perfect balance between its roomy interior and minimalist exterior. The red-and-neutral color scheme makes it wearable for seasons to come. Only 20 pieces were created, so if you’re interested in owning it – act fast!

Special thanks to Trendseeder for organizing this once-in-a-lifetime experience for me. For those who aren’t familiar, Trendseeder gives the fashion industry’s up-and-coming stars a platform to sell their best pieces!
