Scout Sixteen - How to Style a White Wall Scout Sixteen - How to Style a White Wall Scout Sixteen - How to Style a White Wall Scout Sixteen - How to Style a White Wall Scout Sixteen - How to Style a White Wall

Yes, I know. White walls can be quite frightening. Walking into a white room can feel a little like walking through a hospital hallway: sterile and boring. But I’m here to tell you – it doesn’t have to be! For those with design-savvy minds, a while wall is merely a canvas with which to display your creative inspiration piece by piece. Wall color is the “get out of jail free” card when it comes to design. You can instantly illuminate and energize a room with a paint brush and a little guidance from the gurus at Home Depot, but with a white wall you are challenged to turn a interiors no-no into something personal (and live-able).

Whether by organized “clutter” or the simple addition of something vibrant, a white room gains weight and artistic balance. In the images above, I love how a purposely-loose American flag gives an otherwise unseen corner a jolt of simple pride and becomes a conversation piece. On the other hand,  dark furniture and mesmerizing parquet floors draw the eye toward the internal architecture for a “wow factor” living room. Bottom line: Don’t be afraid of white because in wall color – more often than not – less is much handsomely more.

Scout Sixteen - Green

I’ve always been a bit biased to green because it’s the color of my eyes. Green conjures up scenes from the natural world – the great outdoors, falling leaves, and the scent of pine. The particular color lends itself to both decorating your home and wardrobe. It mixes so effortlessly with neutrals (like black, white, and tan) and grounds any composition with a well-balanced foundation.

Happy Monday, everyone! I thought I would get to a few design/home projects this weekend but instead took a very long detour to Lazytown (hello, X-Files on Netflix!) so instead here is what inspired me this weekend.

Color-rich design can be incredibly beautiful when done right; however, I believe a small dose of a single color can take your overall design much further. Think of it as a simple whisper for spaces that require your ‘inside voice’.

Scout Sixteen - Blue Favorites

Refreshingly bold yet innately calming, blue is a color I tend to utilize most in my wardrobe and my home. It’s such an easy hue to pair with (almost) anything and, to be honest, brings out the best part of my skin tone. I’ve been riding the ‘denim train’ since birth – thanks mostly to the ubiquitous Osh Kosh B’Gosh overalls I couldn’t seem to let go of. In your closet, blue should be a staple. It looks fantastic on everywhere and show off a bit of personality. At home, blue promotes a zen environment and – when paired with wood furniture – adds a bold primer to build out a space ripe with rural minimalism.

Color Wheel: Yellow

Color: Yellow / Saffron

I’m a fan of neutrals – always have been, always will be. But you can’t go neutral all the time, which is why I love yellow. Just a little yellow goes a long way to spice up an outfit, a room, or even a dinner dish. I’ve assembled some of favorite products featuring this standout color. (To note: the darker shade in a few of the products above is called ‘Saffron’)
