Before moving to New York, I had heard all the warnings: “It’s a dirty kind of chaos”, “You’re going to end up working all the time!”, and “I bet you’ll start wearing all black”. The latter of these warnings was one I feared the most. I used to have such a colorful wardrobe – a bevy of favorite patterns, palettes, and purveyors. After six years of living and working in the City, my closet is 80% black and navy, and I can say I rather enjoy it. There is a certain “in the know” power that comes from wearing so much black. It isn’t scientific but it’s there; any New Yorker will tell you so.
